Cape Town stays for May: where to stay and what to plan

HMH 1 Cape Town stays for May- where to stay and what to plan

May is one of the easier months to enjoy Cape Town. The pace settles after April, the weather is still mild, and you can move around the city without everything feeling rushed.

Days sit around 18–22°C, mornings are cooler, and sunsets come earlier. It’s a good time for beach walks, coffee stops, and slower evenings along the Atlantic Seaboard.

If you’re planning a  stay, here’s what to keep in mind for May.

A few dates worth planning around if you’re booking your Cape Town stay:

Sanlam  Cape Town Marathon | 23–24 May 2026

If  you’re staying in Sea Point, Green Point, or the CBD, expect early road closures and more movement from around 6am. It’s a great weekend to be near the Promenade if you enjoy the atmosphere.

The  Galileo Open Air Cinema | running until mid-May 2026

The Galileo Open Air Cinema runs through to May at venues like Kirstenbosch and the V&A Waterfront, with picnic-style evenings and movies under the stars.

Where to stay in Cape Town this May

We  manage homes across Blouberg and the Atlantic Seaboard. These three are a good  fit for May, depending on how you like to spend your time.

Beachfront in Blouberg

Eden on the Bay 272, Blouberg

HMH 3 Eden on the Bay 272, Blouberg

One bedroom, one bathroom, and right in the centre of it all.

Step out for coffee, walk straight onto the beach, and come back to a space that’s clean, simple, and ready when you are. There’s a private balcony for slower evenings, a full kitchen, uncapped WiFi, and everything set up for an easy stay.

This works well if you want the beachfront, restaurants, and easy access without needing to plan too much.

On the Promenade in Mouille Point

Seaside Serenity Studio, Mouille Point

HMH 4 Seaside Serenity Studio, Mouille Point

A studio for two, set right on the Promenade.

Wake up to ocean views, step straight out for a walk along Beach Road, and come back to a space that’s clean, considered, and ready for the day. Everything you need is already here, a full kitchen, Nespresso for slower mornings, WiFi, and backup power that keeps things running when it matters.

The Waterfront is a short walk away, which makes it easy to keep your plans simple. Good food, fresh air, and the best parts of Cape Town within reach.

Best sunset spots

If sunset is part of your plan, these are easy wins:

  • Lion’s Head for wide views over the city and ocean
  • Signal Hill if you want to drive up and keep it simple
  • Sea Point Promenade for a walk-and-watch kind of evening
  • Clifton Beaches for softer light and a quieter feel
  • Camps Bay if you want restaurants close by

Stick to well-known areas, especially later in the day, and keep things simple.

Before you book

A few small things that help in May:

  • Allow extra travel time over marathon weekend
  • Pack for cooler mornings and evenings
  • Book restaurants ahead for Friday and Saturday nights
  • Choose Blouberg for beach access, or Mouille Point if you want to walk most places
